Our review from last year still holds true. Basics were all met: cold A/C, hot water, clean towels and sheets, fairly comfortable bed, and quiet room. Breakfast was not great, but expectations weren’t very high at this price point. Front desk staff was pleasant and efficient, and the staff did a good job keeping the breakfast items filled and the area clean. Note that the rooms definitely show some wear, but as mentioned above, everything worked. Will stay again for anything under 2 nights in San Marcos.
Not only are the staff professional and courteous, but they are also smart. The rooms are very clean and the bed is ridiculously comfortable. It can be challenging to get out of the location, but it is worth it. Great hotel. I’m sure you’ll think so too.
The entire staff were incredibly amazing. We could not have wished for a more comfortable and clean hotel. The breakfast was amazing, front desk was superb. Thank Wingate for making our stay so enjoyable.

The breakfast croissant I got was delicious. I also enjoyed the horchata latte I got. Unfortunately, I spilled half of it on myself and the ground. I was very sad. I got a sugar cookie because I’ve wanted one for so long, and nobody sells them anymore. It was a good classic sugar cookie. The icing made it look pretty and gave it a crunch that added to the experience of eating it. This is a very nice place to come and enjoy some pastries. I’ve already been back.
The pastries looked delicious but we decided to have their espresso drinks this time. They bake and sell at several outdoor markets in Monterey Co (Carmel) as well as Cabrillo College’s Farmers Market on Saturday (Aptos). This location isn’t fancy, not exactly a date location, but the mini pies, pies, cookies, and other items would make a perfect hostess gift or breakfast box for company & guests! The pies are handmade on location, definitely made with love unlike Costco.
